The Cheese #47 🧀 - Raccoons, Santa, and Bitcoin Miners

I think I know what I want for Christmas...

Party Time!

Nothing too crazy this week, which is a win! Having our 13th Annual Christmas Party tomorrow, so in prep mode for that for half of the day today. Excited to see everyone as it’s a combination of friends through the years, our neighbors, and co-workers.

While we have a dog and two bunnies in the home, we apparently have a cat, an Opossum, and three Raccoons living outside. The cat (we named her Dora) showed up about a week and a half ago and has been sleeping at night in our backyard. It’s going to get pretty cold starting Sunday night, so we might have to bring her into the basement. She had an interesting interaction with 2 of the raccoons last Friday. I guess they just wanted to be friends? https://www.youtube.com/shorts/bhD-90X66zc

Our BattlGames site visit pushed to next week, but everything else is moving along nicely.

Shay already has the planning so much further ahead than anything we had done in the previous two seasons, which is amazing. I will drop some sponsorship information below.

Season 2 is likely going to premiere on YouTube on January 15th (Episode 1).

Membership side of the business is still great; we ended up not turning our ADs back until yesterday. This should in theory be GREAT for the profitability of December. Cannot wait until February to get here to see if we can scale the membership up further. One of the needle movers for us was our Direct Mail Winback push that Walter made at the end of October / Early November. We had not made a 5-figure one-time investment in direct mail in several years (and the previous campaigns did not do well), so it was awesome to see a direct mail campaign perform so profitably for us.

Whatnot and Amazon are both on track for record months, which is impressive! LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing both of those channels thrive and Curtis and Cameron leading the charge.

Several years ago, I started purchasing miners (to mine Bitcoin and other coins). The journey has been one with ups and downs. It started out great. I have had the data center they are at either sell, get shut down, or go out of business three times. This means my miners have changed data centers several times. They started off in Texas, and then last year all moved to Seattle. At one point, I had 10 miners all running at once. Last year, two had issues, and repairing them did not make sense. I had a single miner at a different data center that went out of business; they stopped responding to emails, so I have no idea where that miner currently is. Last week I was down to 7 miners. With the latest downtrend of the price of bitcoin and increased difficulty of mining, I am turning off and disposing of 4 of them, which will take me down to 3. Four years of mining, and at the current bitcoin price levels, I only made 7% on my investment. 1 Star, do not recommend.

Diet? Still not on it. Gotta get into gear soon, or it’s gonna have to be a 2026 thing.

Let’s get into the rest!
