Back from Vegas and in grind mode...
Vegas was a blast
Vegas was a blast, but paying the price this week with a shortened work week. Getting what I need to get done for a week in only 3 days is an impossible task.
Biggest takeaways from Vegas Trip:
Tacos El Gordo - continues to be a top 5 taco every time I have it. Get one of the Mulas
Good Pie - Off strip, amazing Pizza. I believe it has the best Portnoy score in the state of Nevada
Saw Escape Room - Experience: A+ / Teamwork with our group D-
When We Were Young Festival - Offspring brings massive energy to the stage. Panic at the Disco also put on a great show.
I am now in my MGM Rewards Era (was exclusive to Caesar’s Rewards for over a decade)
Whatnot updates - We will be over $200k in revenue for the month as of today, with a full week left, so the previous record of $213k is definitely going to be beat. After the dust settled from the Miami show, it was breakeven. Still a great experience and would absolutely do it again, but would make some tweaks to ensure we were profitable next go around. We have a warehouse show special today. Chuck is running it solo, it’s the first “special show” that we have not put A LOT of resources on. I am confident Chuck will crush it, and it will be a great show. Will also be important to see the data on (this is a test) to see how a “special show” performs with limited team members.
Still no solution for my next vehicle. I need to dedicate some time to figure out the right path but simply do not have any of that at the moment. In my head, I am leaning towards an X5, X6, or an M8. The first 2 are the logical vehicles given the under 2 years old being living in the household. Also, unrealistic color request, frozen black. It’s BMW’s factory black matte color.
Have a 3-year-old birthday party on Sunday. Normal day on Monday, and then Monday evening I am headed to St Simons for our annual in-person BattlBox board meeting. Two days of some heavy strategy sessions, where we will walk out with our roadmap for 2026.
As I hinted to above, the diet is a full-blown hiatus. I came back home Tuesday evening and I have not back off carbs. Weighing in at 138, which is definitely below where I thought I would be. Likely going to ride the carb train straight into St Simons next week and get back to behaving upon my return. Hopefully, by putting this in writing, I will actually do that and not continue down this path of fatness.
Let’s get into the rest…
Will we have time machines in 2026?
Google’s new “Quantum Echoes” experiment proved its quantum chip could solve a problem about 13,000 times faster than a supercomputer, marking the first time such results were both useful and verifiable. We’ve spent decades proving cause still comes before effect in quantum physics, yet breakthroughs like this keep hinting that time itself might not be as simple as we think.
Whatnot > Flip
Flip was a social-commerce app that blended influencer reviews with shopping, pulling in millions of users before suddenly shutting down. Its fall shows how fast hype can fade when the business model behind it doesn’t hold up.
My Commerce Roundtable Keynote
My keynote on Live Shopping just hit YouTube, check it out. Disappointed by how many times I said “But in reality”. Do better John, do better.
