The Cheese #33 🧀 - No carbs, no sleep, and no showers
It’s been a week.
It’s been a week…
Writing this super late (but you will get it in the morning).
It’s been a week. The dual job of prepping and planning for BattlGames, while all of the stuff I usually do is absolutely not sustainable. I did not shower today, there was no time. Ewwww, that is disgusting. Why did I overshare? Lack of sleep? Am I going crazy?
I tried to cut out as many meetings as I could this week so I could dedicate that time to BattlGames, but I still managed to have 19 planned meetings (I actually had gotten it down to my goal of only 15, but 4 got added 🙂). Next week is BattlGames, and honestly, I am now confident it will be better than it was going to be prior to my heavy involvement.
Let’s go through the usual updates I love to hit on…
Whatnot: We finished August at $176,698.19. About $10k higher than the previous month. Profit margin was about 2% better than July as well. Now it’s time for September. We are hopefully close to releasing our vibe-coded Whatnot app that should make the lives of the Show Runners and Hosts easier. We decided to try and get it a little bit more advanced by building an integration with Shopify, and that has slowed us down a bit. I am still hopeful though.
September is going to bring on the introduction of a new host who is also joining the team as our Director of Sales. His name is Chuck, he is an absolute rockstar, and I can’t wait to see the amazing impact he is going to make across the board for BattlBox. He will obviously be dabbling around on Whatnot but he will be doing lots of other important stuff as well.
New Member Acquisition: We launched the 3rd iteration of the Survival Bag promo last Thursday. It instantly popped, but lost major momentum on Sunday and has been in a similar spot since. Not a bad spot, but more in line with a good promotion, not a great one. New Ad sets have been spun up to try and regain momentum but we are struggling to find the stride we had those first 3 days. Silver Lining is our active member count is still in a great spot, just not as high as I would like.
Diet update: No real updates. No carbs since my birthday, down to 126.8 which is a new record. Down a total of 54.5 pounds. The least I have weighed in the 9 years I have done daily weigh-ins, but BattlGames is next week and I am sure I will have an atrocious amount of carbs every day of the event. I will come back, have a week of eating healthy, then off to Commerce Roundtable where I will once again have a lot of carbs. October has a business trip to Miami, a mini vacation to Vegas, and board meeting in St. Simons so the next bit of time might just be about maintenance. To be fair, maintenance is likely the right move since I am at or near my healthy weight floor, but I really wanted to have some sort of physical fitness part of daily process at this point and I have failed to implement anything.
Let’s get into the rest!
Testing TikTok Shop Live Selling: Part 1
As promised, I broke down our first go at TikTok Live Selling Show. Obviously, super early in testing, and my confidence in our team simply means this was a learning experience where we will be able to apply said learnings on future shows and just get better.

The Best DTC Event of the Year
After BattlGames, I have a week back to regular work, then off to the Commerce Roundtable. If you were not planning on going, you can AND should attend. There are still some tickets available. This event is going to be incredible.
