The Cheese #31 🧀 - BattlGames, Pizza, and a $30k Whatnot Show
How is it already Friday?
How is it already Friday?
This week absolutely flew by. Drinking out of a fire hydrant as I try to familiarize myself with all things BattlGames. Working on the high level structure so I can figure out what I will need to own myself vs what other team members can take over. The biggest and coolest part of the week was how so many team members have reached out and said “Let me know what you need me to do for BattlGames”. I am confident at this point that BattlGames will now be better than it was going to be a couple of weeks ago. It will however require a lot of work. I am going to estimate that I will log more work work hours in the next 2 weeks than I have done in a very long time (100+ hours a week), but we will be much stronger afterwards. We have a Director of Sales starting in September that own all of our sponsorship sales, some Whatnot hosting, and the overall strategy for how we approach B2B sales moving forward. Very excited to have them on the team. Hopefully today, we are getting an offer accepted for the Content Coordinator role (sent an offer to the perfect candidate yesterday). And BattlGames 2026, not to get ahead of myself, but we are going to really take it to the next level. And we have the person already internally that will own it. One step back and three steps forward.
On the Whatnot front, the Warehouse sale beat all records possible in every and any metric. We generated $30k in sales for the show with Joey and Jace leading the hosting (Brandon had a conflict). Cameron also made some cameo appearances on the stream. Here is a recap from the two days in Milledgeville (day 1 was filming content:
Also on the Whatnot side of the business, couple other updates…
We are currently testing the official 1.0 version of the tool that we made in Lovable. The hosts and show runners are trying to break it and hopefully we are able to go live with it this month. Complete game changer of efficiency if it works as intended.
Diet front - Back down to 131.7 lbs. Carbed hard in Milledgeville and then refused to stop when I got back home. I’m talking about ordering Dominos on Saturday and making tacos on Sunday full degen mode. You might think tacos is not super carby, but it is when you make them like I do. A nacho cheese flavor hard shell melted to a soft tortilla for a better version of the Taco Bell infamous combo. Anyway, behaving all week, no carbs. Still TBD if I behave on my birthday weekend (birthday on Saturday).
Colleen actually leaves in a couple of hours for a whole week for a work conference in Seattle. So the next week, I will be also single dadding it in addition to burning the midnight oil at work. Thank goodness Faye (Johnny’s Nanny) will be here Monday thru Friday during the day and my Mom will stay the day on Saturday. So not really single dadding it when I have that support level. I guess evenings I am 100% on my own.
BattlBox acquisition front, we are hopefully getting some bags in next week which will allow us to launch the Survival Bag promo which will definitely keep us going in the right direction (up and to the right). Going to come down to the bag dimensions (if it doesnt fit one of our in house box size skus, we will have to order boxes) though to determine if we can launch it in time for our selling window (our subscription window closes on the 3rd).
Let’s get into the rest of this!
Major Keys in this week’s episode of ASOM
This week’s ASOM pod is an in-person drop from Dallas, Texas. In this one, we dug in hard on building a content engine. Talked about organic vs paid, among other things, and this episode was pure fire.
I am basically Dave Portnoy at this point.
One of my two pizza reviews from Connecticut. This one is a Cinderella story (that is not the right term). Went there for vibes with expectations of mediocre pizza, and what we discovered changed some of our lives. The pizza was EPIC.
Top 5 Sports Cards heating up this week.
Enjoy if you are into this kinda thing. Dive into the details now.
